Mission

The enforcement of fundamental and human rights is increasingly gaining importance. It is not only the enactment of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the EU, which, in addition to the classic civil and political rights (especially the European Convention on Human Rights), enshrines economic and cultural rights, has fostered this development. In fact, the European Court of Justice already reposes its argumentation on the Fundamental Rights Charter. With the expected entry into force of the Treaty of Lissabon on December 1st, 2009, the Charter has become enforceable primary EU legislation.

Numerous human rights agreements on international and regional levels, as well as national constitutions, oblige states to the comprehensive protection of fundamental and human rights, which are in direct correlation with the principles of democracy and the rule of law. Especially developing states and states of transition, but also EU candidate states and neighbouring states, are challenged by the implementation and enforcement of respective standards and of the EU acquis communautaire in their legislation.

The global financial crisis not only endangers the protection of social rights of human beings, but also represents a serious threat to the existence of companies. The LGP- Competence center thus not only lays emphasis to the enforcement of social rights, but also accentuates the securing of respective general conditions for companies, i.e. the protection of relevant economic fundamental and human rights.

At the same time, the increasing internationalisation and expansion in regions, in which the standards of democracy, rule of law, human rights and environmental rights are not realised to their full extent, requires from companies the development of a respective social responsi-bility within the framework of their activities and spheres of influence: “Corporate Social Re-sponsibility – CRS”.

The LGP- Competence center for Fundamental and Human Rights thus recognises its mission in:
the enforcement of fundamental and human rights of individuals and companies before national, European and international authorities
the awareness training and consulting service for companies and state organisations
the development of customised CSR-Concepts for the economy as well as
the continuing educations in the field of fundamental and human rights.

The regional focus hereby rests upon the CIS-states.
