Modern interest representation at the interface of business, law and politics (seminar in cooperation with the University of Vienna, study program Law).
Politics constantly encroaches on the business activities of enterprises. Political concepts and decisions set the framework for entrepreneurial activities. Current political issues often have massive effects on commercial interests and planning. For long-term economic success, it is therefore essential that one's own commercial interests are included in political decision-making in a process-oriented manner. The concept "lobbying" describes such influencing of political decisions on the part of the administration or third parties.
The function that organizes in the political and economic areas the relationship to stakeholders in politics and society, that analyzes the environment, as well as prepares and implements concrete measures, is internationally known as "Corporate Public Affairs Management."
For jurists, this is an interesting area in at least two aspects: (i) as a field of activity and (ii) as the subject of politically controversial discussions. Effective action at the edge between commercial enterprises and their political and societal environment requires comprehensive legal knowledge and raises a series of important legal and political issues.
In this seminar, Dr. Gabriel Lansky and Dr. Andreas Kovar, Managing Director and Partner of Kovar & Köppl Public Affairs Consulting (www.kovarkoeppl.com), make the concept of lobbying tangible by describing the processes of interest representation, on both the national and European levels, using topical case studies from the most diverse legal fields. "Lobbying and Public Affairs" is the only course of its kind in which prospective lawyers are introduced to this subject.
The seminar is divided into two blocks: a three-day block in Vienna is followed by an excursion of several days to Brussels. In Vienna as well as Brussels, the participants have the opportunity to meet well-known personalities and successful practitioners from politics and business, both as speakers and as discussion partners.
